Woman awarded accident compensation after bus fall

A great-grandmother has been awarded accident compensation after she fell during a bus journey.

The £25,000 accident compensation payout was agreed in an out-of-court settlement. According to reports, the bus stopped and the woman, aged 82, was making her way down the aisle to alight when it set off again. The bus braked quickly when the driver realised the 82-year-old was trying to get off and the sudden stop caused the woman to fall and hit her head.

As a result of the fall, the woman suffered cuts and bruises to her head and a condition called drop foot. Drop foot can be brought on by a brain injury and causes significant mobility issues with ankles and feet.

The woman was housebound for six months after the incident and she still has ongoing mobility issues now. She has been forced to make several adaptations to her home to enable her to get around, including installing devices to help her get in and out of the bath.

The woman commented that she used to be extremely lively but now relies on transport services to get from place to place. She said even the short walk to the bus stop is now too much for her.
